2 Eye Tests Your Eye Doctor Will Do

Blog

When you go in for an eye exam, there are a lot of things that your doctor is going to have to do in order to make sure that your eyes are in good shape and to figure out if you need glasses, and if so, what your prescription is. So, what are some of the things that you should expect when you go to see your eye doctor?

Glaucoma Test

One thing that you are going to have to do is have a glaucoma test. There are different ways that your doctor can test your eyes to see if you have glaucoma. However, the most common way today is when they bring their measuring tool right to your eyeball. It shouldn't quite touch your eyeball, but it will be very, very close. That tool will measure the pressure inside your eyeball. If the pressure is too high, you are at risk for glaucoma.

You may have a hard time with this test because your instinct is to close your eyes when something gets that close so that your eye can be protected. You're going to have to hold very still so that the test can be done. It generally only takes a moment or two for it to be completely over with, and it shouldn't hurt you in any way.

Cataract Test

Cataracts can cause you to lose your vision unless you have a procedure done to treat them. Your doctor is going to want to make sure that you aren't showing the signs of cataracts. The easiest way for your eye doctor to check your eyes is for them to turn on a bright light and set it so that it shines in your eyes. Then they will use a special magnifying tool to look around your eye. That will let them look at the structure of your eye and will also allow them see if you have any cataracts starting in your eye.

Again, this test shouldn't hurt at all, but it may leave you with spots in front of your eyes for a moment because of the bright light that the doctor had to use to look at your eyes.

You should go see an eye doctor at places like Battery Park Vision Associates regularly so that any changes in your eyes can be tracked. Knowing what some of the tests are can make it easier for you to handle having then done.
